jMem - your Mac's memory, at a glance.
A lightweight menu-bar utility that shows how much RAM and how many process slots are free - without opening Activity Monitor. Important when work grinds to a halt as resources run out.
Notarized by Apple · Apple Silicon & Intel · ~150 KB · 100% on-device. Open the DMG and drag jMem to Applications.
Real-time memory monitoring
- Lives in your menu bar - current memory usage is always visible; updates automatically every 0.5 to 10 seconds
- Show it your way - free memory, used memory, or percentage used, in GB or GiB
- Top processes - a sortable list of which apps are eating the most RAM
- Process slots - track how many processes are running under your account against per-user limits
- Diagnostics - swap usage, purgeable pages, and memory-pressure details when you need them
- Launch at login, pause/resume on demand, and keyboard shortcuts for common actions
Lightweight & native by design
⚡ Accurate
Reads memory straight from the macOS kernel via native Darwin/mach APIs (host_statistics64, vm_statistics64) - the same data Activity Monitor uses.
🪶 Tiny
100% Swift, no background daemons or helper processes, and a minimal CPU and memory footprint. About 150 KB on disk.
🔒 Private
Everything runs locally on your Mac with no network access. Code-signed and notarized by Apple, so you know it hasn't been tampered with.
System requirements
- macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later
- Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel processor
- Approximately 150 KB of disk space
Installation
Download the notarized DMG, open it, and drag jMem to your Applications folder. Launch jMem and it appears in your menu bar - no configuration required.
